Change YouTube Videos Into MP3 Files

Not long ago I wrote about my attempt, which met with limited success, to change YouTube videos into MP3 files (audio only) so I could listen to them on my MP3 player. I was using vixy.net in that attempt but was frustrated by the relatively high rate of failure to download. After further searches I found some freeware that appears to work far better. It's called DVDVideoSoft (click here to download). There appear to be no spyware, adservers or trojans attached to the software. From time to time the program locks up midway through a download, but that could be a problem with my computer rather than with DVDVideoSoft.

What follows is a step-by-step tutorial on how to use this program once you have it installed on your computer. The program is fairly intuitive, though, so I doubt you'll really need any guidance.

When you launch DVDVideoSoft, you should see what appears in the image above. The program is ready to receive the URLs to online videos you want to retrieve and tranform into mp3 files. So far I have only downloaded files from YouTube, so that's what I'll show you.

On YouTube, next to the video and in the description section you'll find a field labeled "URL," and another labled "Embed." Copy the URL from that field so you can paste it into the DVDVideoSoft program. To get the field to paste the link into, click where it says "Add URLs" and a small window like what you see to the left here should appear. Paste the link in and hit "Add."

Now that you have the url in the add field, hit "Download" at the bottom of the window. Note that you can actually input multiple urls in the same field, but naturally it will take longer for everything to download.

The last screen will look something like what you see below. Click "OK" and then click on the button for "Output Folder" to open the location where your new file is stored. From there you can move the file elsewhere on your computer, transfer it to a flash drive or mp3 player, rename it or delete it.

With that, you are done. If you know of a better program to accomplish the download of YouTube Videos into MP3 format, let me know. I hope this introduction to DVDVideoSoft and tutorial in its use was helpful.
