Part of the Summer Olympics opening fireworks display was faked, then we discovered that the cute little girl who sang for her country was actually lip synching in the place of a less pretty little girl. I'd been hearing that there were suspicions that the girls on the Chinese gymnastics team were below the official age, but looking at their pictures removed all doubts (see them here).
Now the Spanish have chipped in their part, striking a racially insensitive (to say the least) pose for the camera.
Oh, and during this wonderful show of world unity, Russia invaded Georgia.
Like the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz said, "What a world!"
That was interesting. Thanks. Of course the passports are "valid." The Chinese government can issue passports to show anything, and thus they will be "valid." That doesn't change the truth.
ReplyDeleteI should be clear that I don't blame the girls or their families. It is very easy for people in the West to criticize, but in an oppressive system like China's, the little guy (or girl) has few or no options.
I blame the lying Chinese government.
